Your flip-flops are already dusted in sand, your towel has a faint smell of dried squid from the beach vendors, and a karaoke bar three doors back is absolutely butchering a love ballad while jet skis snarl past the swimming zone. That’s Nha Trang Beach, on Vietnam’s south-central coast, right on the main drag of Nha Trang city. For backpackers, it’s less “remote paradise” and more “urban beach with a salt rim.” The sand is decent, the water usually swimmable with a bit of chop, and the long curve of bay backed by islands is easy on the eyes, even with high-rises muscling into the skyline. It’s cleaner than you’d expect for a city beach, but not spotless, and it gets busy with domestic tourists and package groups. Food and beds are cheap and everywhere, nightlife is loud, and while the surf is meh, diving and island-hopping beat most mainland beaches like Mui Ne or Quy Nhon for sheer convenience.
