- Milford Sound / Piopiotahi — The poster-child fiord: towering cliffs, thunderous waterfalls like Stirling Falls, and Mitre Peak. Boat or kayak trips bring you close to fur seals, dolphins and the odd penguin; epic for scenic photography and short walks from the road end.
- Doubtful Sound — Far wilder and quieter than Milford. Accessed by lake and boat, it feels remote: deep, sheltered waters, rainforest-draped cliffs, and excellent chances to see pods of bottlenose dolphins and black coral gardens on overnight cruises.
- Routeburn Track — One of New Zealand’s Great Walks that links Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks. Expect alpine passes, waterfalls, beech forest and sweeping valley views; doable as a day hike on shorter sections or as a multi-day tramping trip.

- Franz Josef / Fox Glaciers — Low-altitude glaciers that plunge from the Southern Alps into temperate rainforest. Walk the valley for dynamic ice-sculpted scenery, or book a glacier heli-hike for an up-close, otherworldly ice experience.
- Aoraki / Mount Cook — New Zealand’s highest peak and a stark alpine playground. The Hooker Valley Track is an easy-to-moderate hike with glacier-fed lakes and superb mountain panoramas; the area’s night skies are also fantastic for stargazing.
- Lake Matheson — The “mirror lake” near Fox Glacier famous for perfect reflections of Aoraki on calm mornings. Short, flat walks and easy viewing platforms make it an easy stop with big photo payoff.
- Kepler Track — A scenic Great Walk loop around the lakes and ridges above Te Anau. Combines beech forest, wetlands and alpine ridgelines with reliable views over Lake Te Anau and the surrounding Fiordland ranges; great for multi-day tramping or long day hikes on the Luxmore side.
