- Summit (Pico Paraná) — The main draw: the highest point in southern Brazil (around 1,877 m) with a sweeping 360° panorama of the Serra do Mar and, on really clear days, glimpses of the coast. It’s the classic “you made it” moment — sunrise up here is cinematic and is my personal favorite for the light and silence before the crowds arrive.
- Exposed granite ridge and scrambles — Sections of bare rock and short hands-on moves give the trail an alpine feel you don’t get on many Brazilian hikes. The ridge offers dramatic drop-offs and photo frames that make the effort feel properly earned.
- Mossy Atlantic Forest and high-elevation flora — The hike winds through dense, old-growth Atlantic Forest full of epiphytes, orchids and bromeliads; higher up you’ll find stunted trees and occasional araucaria

- Mossy Atlantic Forest and high-elevation flora — The hike winds through dense, old-growth Atlantic Forest full of epiphytes, orchids and bromeliads; higher up you’ll find stunted trees and occasional araucaria fragments. That contrast — jungle turning into windswept scrub — is what makes the route visually special.
- Streams, cascades and natural pools — Lower slopes have clear mountain streams and small waterfalls that are perfect for cooling off, filtering water, or breaking for lunch. They’re practical (water + shade) and pretty — great little micro-ecosystems along the way.
- Wildlife encounters and morning chorus — Expect to hear bugios (howler monkeys), see colorful tanagers and toucans, and catch amphibian life near the streams. The dawn chorus here is memorable — it’s one of those places where sound adds as much to the experience as the view.
