- Granite outcrops and inselbergs — The park’s signature rounded granite hills rise out of the savanna and make for fun, short scrambles and excellent photo ops. The rock formations are ancient, weathered, and give you sweeping views over the reserve and surrounding plains.
- Shai Hills caves and rock shelters — Tucked into the granite are caves and rock crevices once used by the Shai people. They’re interesting to explore with a guide: you’ll see hand-sized shelters, old habitation sites and get a sense of the area’s human history mixed into the landscape.
- Walking safaris and close wildlife encounters — Shai Hills is one of the few places near Accra where you can do guided walking safaris. Expect troops of monkeys and baboons, antelope-like species, warthogs and the odd monitor lizard — sightings

- Walking safaris and close wildlife encounters — Shai Hills is one of the few places near Accra where you can do guided walking safaris. Expect troops of monkeys and baboons, antelope-like species, warthogs and the odd monitor lizard — sightings are frequent and intimate because the reserve is relatively compact.
- Birdwatching in savanna and woodland — The mix of rocky hilltops, grassland and scattered trees attracts a surprising variety of birds. Take binoculars for raptors, kingfishers near water holes and a range of savanna species; it’s a small reserve but bird diversity punches above its weight.
- Short hiking trails and easy loops — Trails here are doable in a couple of hours and are great for day-trippers who don’t want full-on trekking. Routes wind around rocks and through grassland, so you get varied scenery without having to be a hardcore hiker.
- Sunset views and picnic spots — Climb a rocky knob late afternoon and watch the sun sink behind the savanna — the colors over the granite are worth the short effort. There are also simple picnic areas if you want to linger and soak it in.
- Nearby community history and cultural context — While the reserve is mainly natural, the story of the Shai people is woven into the place. Guided visits often include local history about how the hills were used for refuge and ritual, which adds depth to the wildlife and landscape experience.
