- Wild water buffalo — Koshi Tappu is one of the few places in Nepal where you can reliably see wild (endangered) water buffalo grazing the tall floodplain grass; they’re big, awkward, and strangely photogenic up close.
- Migratory waterbirds and sarus cranes — winter pulls in hundreds of waterfowl and waders, with sarus cranes among the standouts; if you like binocular-thrills, this wetland’s seasonal birdlife is top-notch.

- Wetland sunrises and sunsets — wide sky, mirrored water and flocks silhouetted against color—simple, peaceful, and great for low-effort photography or just sitting with a thermos.
- Riparian mammals and reptiles — the floodplain supports nilgai, Bengal foxes, fishing cats and smooth-coated otters, and you may glimpse crocodiles in the deeper channels; sightings are hit-or-miss, so go prepared to be patient.
