This 15-day route is for travelers who want the full Cambodia arc: ancient temples, capital-city grit and grace, sleepy river towns, and island time, moving at a measured pace with a mix of buses, minivans, boats, and tuk-tuks. You’ll loop from Siem Reap through Phnom Penh to the south coast and islands, with enough days in each stop to feel the personality shift as you go.
Days 1-3: Siem Reap & Angkor Core
Begin with three nights in
Siem Reap, using tuk-tuks to hop between ruins while keeping your base simple and familiar. Give one full day to the
Angkor Wat Temple Complex, letting sunrise, midday breaks, and a late return turn it into a layered experience instead of a single crowded snapshot, and another to
Bayon Temple and the surrounding Angkor Thom gates where the stone faces and long causeways feel like a city frozen mid-story. With a third day, you can slow down, revisit a favorite corner, and still have time for cheap eats and a wander through town’s backstreets.

Days 4-5: Ta Prohm, Kulen Mountain & Angkor National Museum
On day four, head to
Ta Prohm Temple for that tree-root-over-stone drama, timing your visit for early or late light so the tour groups thin and the jungle soundtrack takes over. Day five is your nature reset: a day trip to
Kulen Mountain for forest walks, riverbed carvings, and a waterfall break, then back to town to cool off at the
Angkor National Museum, where the exhibits tie together everything you’ve seen in the temples into a coherent story before you move on.
Days 6-7: Phnom Penh, Royal Palace & Memory
Travel to
Phnom Penh on day six, giving yourself two full days to understand the capital beyond its traffic and chaos. Visit the
Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda and the
National Museum of Cambodia to connect Angkor’s grandeur with the modern monarchy, then spend unhurried time at the
Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and
Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, spacing them out so you can process what you’re seeing instead of rushing through some of the most important sites in the country. Evenings are for decompressing along the riverfront or ducking into small cafes where the city feels more human-scale.
Days 8-9: Kampot & Preah Monivong Bokor National Park
On day eight, head down to
Kampot, a mellow riverside town that makes a perfect base for exploring the southern hills without sacrificing good food and easy logistics. Spend a day wandering Kampot’s streets and riverfront, then use the next to ride up into
Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, where cool air, viewpoints, and relics of old hill-station buildings give you a very different angle on Cambodia’s landscape. With two nights, you can enjoy slow breakfasts, sunset boat rides, and still fit in the mountain without feeling like you’re on a forced march.
Days 10-11: Kep & Kep National Park
Shift along the coast to
Kep on day ten, trading river life for sea breezes and crab shacks. Base here for two nights so you can spend one day hiking the trails of
Kep National Park, where forest paths and viewpoints loop above town, and another grazing on seafood, watching the light change over the Gulf, and letting your pace drop before you head to the islands.
Days 12-15: Sihanoukville, Koh Rong & Koh Rong Sanloem
On day twelve, move to
Sihanoukville mainly as your jumping-off point, keeping your time in the city itself short and functional. From there, catch a boat out to the
Koh Rong region, splitting your remaining days between
Koh Rong Sanloem and the beaches of
Koh Rong Beach and
Long Set Beach depending on how much you want to alternate between quiet hammock time and livelier stretches of sand. With three to four nights in the islands, you can build in full lazy days, a snorkel trip or two, and unhurried sunsets before looping back via Sihanoukville for your onward journey.
When you’re ready to come back for something even wilder, aim for the remote forest trails of Phnom Aural, where the country’s highest peak hides in a tangle of jungle far from any usual itinerary.
